Situated in a superb space in the heart of the city, the Alliance Française du Cap is a South African non-profit organisation founded in 1959.
The Alliance aims at promoting French language and francophone cultures within the larger framework ofintercultural exchanges between France, Francophone countries and South Africa. It is an apolitical and non-denominational body that is linked to the network of the Fondation Alliance Française in Paris whose origins date back to 1883.
The Alliance Française du Cap is supported by the French Embassy in South Africa and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Boasting a spacious 100 m² gallery with a hosting capacity of up to 150 people, the Alliance organizes frequent cultural events which build student loyalty and also allow the greater public to get to know the Alliance.
In order to elaborate its cultural programming, the Alliance of Cape Town works in partnership with DGAF (Délégation Générale de l’Alliance Française de Paris), IFAS (Institut Français d’Afrique du Sud), the French Embassy, and CulturesFrance/French Association for Artistic Action (several AF network tours were organised in partnership with DGAF and IFAS). The AF also works with numerous South African partnerships: Artscape (Cape Town Opera), Cape Town Jazz Festival etc.
A special partnership with France Volontaire, Région Réunion and FEDER (European Found) give us the opportunity to promote "metissage" (mixing cultures) through artists from Reunion Island.
